On MAY 19-20, the Wimmera Kart Racing Club hosted Round 3 of the 2018 VCS. This event is held annually and shared amongst 6 clubs. Our event attracted 216 competitors from as far as Melbourne to South Australia, and hundreds of of their families and friends visited Horsham for the 2 day event.
We wish to say thank everyone who made our Round 3 of the Victorian Country Series event a success, the 216 drivers together with their families and friends, the officials and our event sponsors.

A special thanks also go to our members who worked tirelessly for many weeks leading up to the event there were only a small amount of us but we made it work and also made it enjoyable for everyone, which is what we set out to do from the very start. We look forward to seeing you all again next year!

Wimmera Kart Racing Club president Shane Souter has hailed the latest round of the Victorian Country Series a success.

Souter said it was smooth sailing all weekend, with the club hosting 217 drivers and their large support crews for the third round of the increasingly popular series.

"That's well up on 176 from last year - it's quite a dramatic increase," he said.

"It was great to see the club so full. The whole club banded together to chip in and help make it a successful round."

Remo Luciani put in the best performance of the six Wimmera members that competed on their home track.

He took out the KA3 Senior Medium Class final on Sunday by just 0.241 seconds.

Ash Mitchell placed third in the TaG Restricted Medium class ahead of fellow Wimmera driver Alex Baker, who placed fourth.

Leon Forrest recorded the fastest lap in the final of the Combined Masters on his way to placing third. Anthony Taylor placed fifth in the same final.

The club's youngest competitor Robbie Turmine found trouble in the final of KA4 Junior Light class and failed to finish.

Souter said Turmine still had a good weekend of racing. "He had an incident which he got tied up in but that happens when you're still learning."

Souter said many club members had received feedback from visitors about how smoothly the weekend went and how professional things were run.

"Everything went smoothly -  there were no major hold ups or incidents," he said. "The weather was good all weekend except for a couple of spits of rain which made racing interesting for the last couple of classes. I need to thank all of our members for helping out, especially all the ones that don't drive or race because they ensure our club can be successful."

Every round of this season's series has had more than 200 competitors take to the track. Souter said it was huge for the series to continue growing as it has.

"For karters it's one of the most attractive events in Victoria at the moment," he said.

"There are such great prize pools at the end of the series."

The next round of series will see the drivers travel to Warrnambool in July before Hamilton Kart Club hosts round five in September. Portland will host the final round of the series in October.

Souter said he was working to try and organise more club days at the Dooen track and would always welcome new drivers.

"We usually have a day each month where everyone comes out to practice but it depends on the weather," he said. "We're also trying to work with some businesses to try and make a couple of those club days a bit bigger as well."

Here below is a message we received from a competitor and their family after our event, THANK YOU Joe and Max, we very much appreciate any feedback we receive from competitors and teams to help us make our event even better in 2019.

LETTER from Joe and Max Torcasio

Hi,
I just wanted to say thank you to the club for putting on a fantastic Round 3 VCS event over the weekend.
At first I was a bit dubious of coming because as a bit of a track snob I asked myself what could a 24 second track offer as an entertainment for the racers and spectators? Well how wrong was I!!
I thought Wimmera was an excellent track in both racing and for the spectator. The racing was so good to watch and it just worked. Could it have been better well 'maybe a few more laps' each race yes but very very happy with the whole setup and running. Weigh area could be rearranged but I suppose you already know that.
In summary I thought everything about your club deserved a mention from the moment I made contact in entering the race online to the moment I left on Sunday.
The clubs administration, communication and promotion of the event was excellent and your pit space allocation handling was excellent.
When I arrived at the track, your pits were probably the best I have seen in cleanliness, comfort and layout. The pit Marshall Paul did a great job in allocating the spot for us when we arrived at the circuit and we couldn't be happier with our spot.
Your canteen was excellent, could of been better with bacon and egg rolls on Saturday as well but I am happy to wait until Sunday. It made it all the more special ??
Assistance from club members was friendly and easy to work with, right up to the moment when we were leaving when a gentlemen ran up to help with the trailer even though we didn't need it. It was just nice to have someone looking out. He even moved the bin as we were leaving to make it just that little bit easier to navigate out. That's awesome hospitality.
So I would like to say, 'Wimmera Kart Club' you absolutely knocked that one for six. Your club did a great job and we look forward to coming back one day.
Kind regards, Joe and Max Torcasio
